Photo Safari
Hidden, silently and in perpetual vigilance, you watch both earth and sky, waiting for that perfect, once in a lifetime picture; the majestic, lingering flight of a condor, the sun disappearing behind the Puna highlands. Suddenly you seize your 35 millimeter weapon, concentrate, focus on the objective… and shoot.
Time is frozen.. Hunting for images inthe Andean world. Curtains open, sure fingers on the trigger… exploding flashes and multiplying “clicks” in an intense session of photographic shooting; but the ammunition runs out and you have to change the roll. On the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador there are so many sea and land creatures and so many different views that can hypnotize the camera.
Change of scene. Roads full of history, freezing hills, spectacular gorges, terrifying drops in the Andean highlands… and then you arrive to a viewing point thousands of metres above sea level. You raise your lens, point it to the sky and decide to wait for the arrival of the condor, the biggest flying bird in the world and, without doubt, one of those “preys” most yearned for by image hunters that can be captured at the Ulla Ulla National Reserve in Bolivia, or at the Colca Canyon in Peru.
Thanks to its vast geography and great diversity of flora and fauna species, the Andean region is an ideal destination for photographic safari lovers, one tourist activity that has been become more intensely developed in recent years. There is no fatigue or tiredness in waiting, only the desire to shoot nonstop and so capture the images and shades of a region full of attractions and natural wealth.
Bosque de Pomac
The Bosque de Pomac Historic Sanctuary is located in the District of Pítipo, Province of Ferreñafe (Department of Lambayeque). It embraces a surface of 5887.38 hectares, which represent 0.41% of the Department’s total area, and the River La Leche crosses it by the middle.
Its definite categorisation as a Historic Sanctuary has contributed in establishing a solid base to face deforestation and the loss of genetic quality amongst the wild flora and fauna species. Besides defining the guidelines to propose the modalities and intensities of its indirect utilisation, for best managing and conserving this protected natural area and its zone of influence.
The Bosque de Pomac Historic Sanctuary protects 0.2% of the total area of the Pacific Tropical Desert, where two of the three life zones developing on this type of zone are found in here, the Super Arid Tropical Desert and the Super Arid Pre-Mountainous Desert. Various vegetal communities develop in here, such as the Dense and Semi-Dense Forests, Shrubs, and the most important natural concentration of locust trees in the country.
The Algarrobal (forest of locust trees) is the dominating community in the north of the country. It is mainly associated to the sapote (Capparis angulata) and to the faique or long spine (Acacia macracantha), the bichayo or oval-leaf clustervine (Capparis ovalifolia), and bushes such as the Vallesia dichotoma in a lesser proportion. This forest has a high economic value in non-woodwork products, such as the algarroba, honey, as well as for eco-tourism. (more…)
