Bahuaja Sonene National Park

The Bahuaja - Sonene National Park was established on July 17, 1996 through Law (D.S.) N 012-96-AG. The area of Tambopata Candamo was created after it with the participation of the population of Madre de Dios and Puno.

This National Park is located in the departments of Madre de Dios and Puno provinces of Tambopata and Sandia respectively. It has a surface of 537,053.25 hectares corresponding to the National Sanctuary of Pampas del Heath, has a borderline with the National Park of Madidi in Bolivia. We con find several animals in danger of extinction like the giant outter and the river wolf (Pteronura brasiliense), the wild dog (Speothos venaticus), the black alligator (Melanosuchus niger), the aguila harpía (Harpya harpija).

A recently created park in the jungle territories of the Puno and Madre de Dios departments, the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park (names given by the Ese’eja ethnic group to the Tambopata and Ene rivers, respectively) serves to protect what are probably the last inhabited tropical forests of the world.

Yanachaga Chemillen National Park

The Yanachaga Chemillen National Park was established on August 29, 1986, through Law (D.S.) N 068-86-AG. This National Park is situated in the department of Pasco, province Oxampampa, districts of Oxapampa, Villarica, Huancabamba and Pozuzo on a mountain range east of the Andes. It has a surface of 122,000 hectares.

Local flora includes mosses, brackens, orchids, cans, and several types of bushes, also the ulcumano (Podocarpus rospigliossi and Podocarpus glomeratus), the Diablo fuerte trees (Podocarpus oleifolrus and Podocarpus utilior), cedars (Cedrela lilloi and Cedrela mountain), walnut trees (Juglans neotropica), oak trees (Lauraceas) among others. Rio Abiseo National Park

The Río Abiseo National Park was established on August 11, 1983 through Law (D.S.) N 064-83-AG. In 1990 was declared as a Cultural and Natural Inheritance of the Humanity by UNESCO.

This park is located in the department of San Martín, province Mariscal Caceres, district Hurcungo with a surface of 274,520 hectares.

In this park are seven life zones going from 350 m.a.s.l. to 4200 m.a.s.l. with very varied flora and fauna. The foggy forests have a very rich variety of plants behind the tropical and humid forests. Its flora includes archids, brakens, canes and mosses. There are 261 types, 105 families and 1,000 types of flora.

Rio Abiseo National Park also is home for several types of birds such as the paujil (Crax salvini), the jungle condor (Sarcoramphus popa), the yellow head parrot (Amazona ochrocephala) and the wild duck (Netta erythrophthalma). (more…)

Cerros de Amotape National Park

The Cerros de Amotape was established on July 22, 1975through Law (D.S.) N 0800-75-AG. Since 1977 the Reserve of the North-est Biosphere ios made up of Coto de Caza, The Angolo and the Zona Reservada de Tumbes. This park is located in the departments of Tumbes and Piura, provinces of Contralmirante Villar and Sullana, and has a surface of 91,300 hectares.

There are 4 different ecosystems in Cerros de Amotape and local flora includes 44 arboreal species, 47 bush species, 61 plants, 12 dimming plants, 7 cactaceas and 12 epiphytes. (4 varieties of archids). Some trees found at this park are the cedar (Cedrel sp.) the ebony (Ziziphus thyrsiflora), the guaycan (Tabebuia bill bergii), the madero (Tabebura chrysanta), the hualtaco (Loxopterygium huasango) and the palo santo (Bursera graveolens).

The wild fauna is very varied, there are species from tropical forests, arid areas and the Andes. There are about 100 species of mammals, birds, reptiles and anphibians. (more…)

The Huascaran National Park was established on July, 1st, 1975, through Law (D.S.) N 0622-75-AG. UNESCO recognized it as Natural Inheritance of the Humanity in 1985 and as a Biosphere Reserve in 1977. Huascaran National Park includes the Cordillera Blanca, the highest Tropical chain of mountains in the world, and is located in the department of Ancash, provinces of Huaylas, Yungay, Carhuaz, Huaraz, Recuay, Bolognesi, Pomabamba, Huari, Mariscal Luzuriaga and Asuncion. It has a surface of 340,000 hectares.

The Huascaran National Park has a very rich flora, fauna, and beauty landscapes. Some of its peaks and lagoons are very popular around the world. Mount Huascaran is the highest mountain in Peru - 6,768 m.a.s.l. this park presents seven microclimates where more than 779 species of flowers (304 types and 104 families) live.

We can find the Puya (Puya Raimondi), there are quenual forests (Polylepis sp.) which make up the high andean plateau. There are 8 types and 10 different species of mammals sucha as the wild cat (Oncifelis Colocolo), the andean cat (Oreailurus Jacobita), the spectaded bear (Tremarctos Orriatus), the taruca (Hippocamelus Antisensis) and the vicuna (Vicugna Vicugna). Manu National Park: Peru

Manu National Park

Manu National Park was established by Law (D.S.) N 0644-73-AG. as a national park on May 29, 1973 across a surface of 1,716,295.22 hectares and declared a Mankind Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987.

The reserve covers the entire watershed of the Manu River, running across an extraordinary range of altitudes, running from 4,300 m.a.s.l. in the high Andean plain down to 200 meters in the Amazon Basin.

The area is home to dozens of tribes -Amahuaca, Huachipaire, Piro, Machiguenga, Yora and Yaminahua- as well as others that have yet to make contact with the outside world.

The Manu National Park is also a haven for more than 20,000 plant varieties such as Cetico (Cecropia sp.), Topa (Ochroma sp.), Cedar (Cedrela sp.), the screwdriver (Cedrelinga catanaformis), the chesnut tice (Bertholletia excelsa), Lupuna (Chorisio sp.) and the rubber plant (Heves brasiliensis). Also 1,200 butterfly species, 1,000 bird species, 200 species of mammals and an unknown quantity of reptiles, amphibians and insects.

There are trees as: Cetico (Cecropia sp.), Topa (Ochroma sp.), Cedar (Cedrela sp.), the screwdriver (Cedrelinga catanaformis), the chesnut tice (Bertholletia excelsa), Lupuna (Chorisio sp.) and the rubber plant (Heves brasiliensis).

Lots of species are protected in this park for example 800 species of birds 200 species of mammals (there are more than 100 species of bats), 120 species of fishes and reptiles the some as insects and other ones. In this region we can observe different birds as for example: The aguila harpia - - eagle - (harpia harpyja), the jabirú (Jabiru mycteria) and the pink espatula (Ajaja ajaja).

In the banks of the river in the branches of the tree we can find the sachapato (Cairina moschata), wild goose (Neochen jubata), the Gallito de las Rocas (Rupicola peruviana), the mono choro comun - monkey - (Lagothrix Lagotricha), the maquisapa negro (Ateles paniscus), the river wolf (Pteronura brasiliensis), the jaguar (Panthera onca), the wild cat (Leopoardus pardalis) , the spectaded bear (Tremarctos ornatus) and the Taruca (Hippocamelus antisensis). Tingo Maria National Park: Peru

Tingo Maria

His park was established on May 14, 1965 through Law N15574, it is located in the department of Huanuco, province of Leoncio Prado, district of Mariano Damaso Veraun. It has a surface of 18 000 hectares and is made up of a chain of mountains called La Bella Durmiente because its summits have the form of a sleeping lady in the city of Tingo María.

The main attractive of this park is the Cave of the Owls that it is the gapped complex underground system in La Bella Durmiente.

You can also visit Jacintillo (solphurous waters) and La Quinceañera (waterfalls). In this park there is a very rich wild fauna made up of 104 species, 9 fishes, 21 bathracion and reptiles, 39 birds and 36 mammals. There are big snakes (boas and mantonas) and small snakes called naka nakas (Micrurus sp.). (more…)
